Growing up, I loved reading Aesop’s fables. They were literary brain snacks: entertaining short stories with a little lesson hidden within. Those little lessons gave me enough food for thought to digest over the course of my life. They also trained me to find deeper meaning in every story and every experience I encounter.
Now that I’ve grown up a little more, I still enjoy fables. The ones I’ve encountered in recent years, however, have a more *mature* tone for “adult audiences.” The lessons they impart do, too. Here is one modern parable that has circulated the Internet and email threads over the past decade. I’ll post more as I discover new gems, and hope you enjoy them as much as I have…
“Full Disclosure”:
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.
The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor.
Before she can say a word, Bob says, “I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.”
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob. Bob gives her a good look up and down, then hands her $800 and leaves.
The woman wraps herself back up in the towel and returns upstairs. When she gets to the bedroom, her husband asks, “Who was that?”
“It was Bob from next door,” she replies.
“Great!” the husband exclaims. “Did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?”
Moral of the story:
In financial matters, practice full disclosure with your partner(s). By sharing critical information up front, you could help prevent avoidable exposure.
