Twestival Houston 2010 Benefiting Concern Worldwide
|
Thanks to Twestival Global and its platform that unites local communities through a 100% volunteer-led worldwide mission to leverage social media for social good, the Houston Twitter community was able to contribute over $2166 to help Concern Worldwide (see Concern’s Twestival page here) … with the final amount of donations to Concern totaling over $454,788! Concern Twestival 2010 featuring Moby song at Concern Worldwide While the significance of this was lost on one negative nellie (who has never volunteered for nor supported Twestival Houston, and erroneously claimed seven months of planning went into @TwestH 2010), the real impact of every dollar was made clear through Twestival’s transparent project allocation and “Impact” infographic: Twestival raised enough money for Concern to build 28 schools, train 43 teachers, provide 11,869 meals, educate 87 girls, provide 6 wells, educate 2901 children, help 58 more, and furnish 2 classrooms. Not bad for a few people with little time and no budget – Candace, Mitsy, Mandy and I worked solely on good relationships and Houstonians’ generous natures (Houston tweeps ROCK!). Special “THANK YOU!!!” and love to the following people, local restaurants and businesses, and bands who donated their time, effort, goods and services to help make Twestival Houston a success … Please visit them if you’re in Houston and help make them a success! Twestival Houston Co-Organizers: Candace, Mitsy, Mandy Bands:
It just shows how much people can do when they care to help. Special bonus: Hundreds of people from various parts of Houston came together for a good time to benefit a good cause, and got to meet new friends and familiar faces in the process. Many were actually new to Twestival and didn’t even have Twitter accounts (?!). If you weren’t able to make Twestival Houston, Digital Memories Photobooths (@DMPhotobooths) was snapping & live-tweeting pictures at @twesth: Steven David (@thestevendavid) also snapped some beautiful photos – see the gallery at TwestivalHouston2010.
