This is for all my friends who feel like 2010 has just been one big kick in the face. Grab some ice (preferably with a single malt scotch) and keep your chin up: There are only a few more days to go until it’s finally over.
Take this time to clear your head, heart and home for the new year. Purge. Open up. Make space for life to happen. Here are some tips from my own to-do list:
- Clear out your closets and repurpose, give away, or toss anything you haven’t used this year.
- Say “no more, thanks” to everything you’ve been spending time on that’s only distracted you from what you really want to accomplish.
- Empty that inbox!
- Refine your personal and professional goals into one overarching mission and dedicate yourself to it.
- Craft a personal “Getting Things Done” process that works best for you and commit to doing it every day so it becomes a good habit. Mine goes something like:
- Receive.
- Respond, delegate, schedule, file or trash.
- Refresh my brain with a 15-minute ‘moment of zen’ every few hours: Relax with something creative, calming or social.
- Repeat.
- Remember that social media is only a tool. Don’t let it distract you from truly being social. The best medium of interaction will always be sharing experiences and ideas with real people — not avatars — in real life.
