Getting Intimate at Netsquared Houston : Tools for #Intimacy

Do It One-on-One. Figure out your “voice.” Then use these to talk to your reader on a personal level…

  1. Website/Blog – Register a unique domain name (HostGator affiliate link – great hosting value starting at $4.95/month, and they’re local! #SLGT) and set up a WordPress site as your home base.
  2. RSS Feed – Set up your site/blog with Feedburner to boost functionality and get subscriber analytics.
  3. Email – Get a Google/Gmail Account and use Gist to see whether your contacts are on other social networks.
  4. Newsletter – Avoid the super-spammy CC or BCC and set up an email newsletter via MailChimp (MonkeyRewards link) – It’s free for less than 1000 subscribers, and has social plugins and a user-friendly interface that beats ConstantContact and iContact.

Do It With Multiple Partners. Put a great team together. Then use these tools to work together efficiently and effectively…

  1. Google Apps – If your organization has less than 3,000 users, you can get Google Apps numerous features for free.
  2. Huddle or Zoho – To manage teams and projects, with whiteboards, tasks, milestones, etc. (Huddle has a free program for non-profits.)
  3. DropBox for collaborative file sharing and storing documents in the cloud.
  4. Hootsuite or Tweetdeck – Communicate across your social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare) in one place, through one dashboard, through Hootsuite or Tweetdeck. Hootsuite paid features also include the ability to add team members to help manage your social network updates, and delegate follow-up.

Do It In Public. Let your audience know what you’re doing, and invite them to comment or provide feedback…

  1. Vimeo – If you want to provide high quality video, and maintain complete ownership over your content.
  2. YouTube – If you want to broadcast to as many people as possible, and don’t mind their Terms of Use that dictate how they are able to use your content.

What great tools do you use to help your non-profit or creative career? Please leave them in the comments below and I’ll include some in my next “tips & tools” post!
